Who it suits
This is a family district in the most literal sense: shallow water at the shore, a promenade you can push a pushchair along, and straightforward infrastructure close by. It suits people who want to be fifteen minutes from town without living in it. Windsurfers are well served through the season: the water is flat in the morning and forgiving for beginners, while the wind builds in the afternoon. There is next to no nightlife in Bitez — for that people drive into Bodrum — so the area is calm rather than dull.
Villas in the area
Tangerine and olive groves run between the beach and the village, so plots here are on average greener and flatter than on the slopes of the northern shore. The typical Bitez villa is a two-storey house with a garden and a pool a few minutes from the water, rather than a panoramic property on a cliff.
Distances and logistics
Milas-Bodrum airport lies roughly 40–45 km away, about 40–55 minutes by car — Bitez is one of the closest districts to the airport on the peninsula. Bodrum town centre is some 6–8 km, around 10–20 minutes, with dolmus minibuses running the same route. The beach and promenade are walkable from most villas. The nearest marina is Milta Bodrum Marina in the town centre, about 15 minutes by car.
What is nearby
Bitez beach is an elongated sand and shingle arc of around a kilometre and a half, with sunbeds, cafes and windsurfing schools at the western end of the bay. Behind the beach begin the tangerine groves, crossed by paths towards the old village, and the hills beyond carry cycling routes. The beaches of Gumbet are minutes away; St. Peters Castle, the Museum of Underwater Archaeology and the marina in Bodrum centre are about a quarter of an hour. Ortakent, with its long beach, is roughly ten minutes away.
Seasonality
The swimming season holds from May to October, peaking in July and August when the promenade and car parks fill up. The wind is most reliable in the summer months, so windsurfing here is seasonal. In May, June and September the beach is noticeably freer. In winter some of the beach cafes close, but thanks to its proximity to town Bitez never empties completely: the village lives all year round.
